As a versatile and experienced counsellor, NLP practitioner /master practitioner, and hypnotherapy consultant, he has had some major breakthroughs in weight loss, eating disorders , smoking cessation, phobias and addictions. Ian is currently working with Paul on the development of a twelve stage hypnotic progession for alcoholism. He has the follwing to say about hypnosis: "Hypnosis is a state in which the critical factor of the mind - the conscious mind - is bypassed in order to access the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is a vast resevoir of past experience, which contains the inhibiting beliefs that thwart our growth. Hypnosis quietens the constant inner dialogue of the conscious mind, enabling us to extract problematc issues from the unconscious and supplant them with life-enhancing strategies. The process induces an altered state of consciousness much like daydreaming. Change work that can be effected by hyonosis includes: weight loss, smoking cessation, confidence, self-esteem, exam nerves, the list increases ad infinitum. Working with the unconscious mind treats the cause rather than the effect, establishing permanent change rather than temporary. Hypnotherapy often reveals profound insights and vastly improves self-awareness." "There are many misconceptions held about the nature of hypnosis which detract from the beneficial effects it can instill. The emergence of stage hypnotism has given rise to apprehension by presenting the illusion that subjects are under full control of the hypnotist and can be made to act against their will. Nobody (even in the deepest trance) will do anything against their will and subjects are in full control of their faculty’s right throughout the process. People who participate in stage shows have an inner desire to participate, which is reinforced by the atmosphere of the occasion. Anyone who is asked to do anything they find objectionable will come out of the state immediately." “Man's task is to become conscious of the contents that press upward from the unconscious.” Carl Gustav Jung What is hypnosis?
